Carved by glaciers, the character of Western New York State is reflected in finger-shaped lakes, plunging gorges and ravines, fertile hills and valleys, cold-running rivers and hidden falls and glens.
For centuries this was the land of the Seneca Indian Nation, a proud and fiercely independent people. They called their home "Gen-nis-he-y," or the beautiful valley.
Through this valley, a river flowed north, tumbling over great falls, and drifting past fertile fields on its way to Lake Ontario.
After Americas revolution, the Genesee Valley was settled by pioneers, and fruit and wheat from their fields fed a hungry nation. The pioneers also grew hops, and in 1819 began supplying the first of five breweries to occupy the highest of three waterfalls in the heart of Rochester, N.Y.
The HighFalls Brewing Company is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage so firmly established by our brewing forefathers. We brew in the same location, overlooking the same great falls, where beers and ales of quality and distinction have been brewed for more than 150 years.
